Government had announced the petrol price to be increased starting from 4th June 2008, from RM1.92 to a record high of RM2.70. Diesel price even higher by increasing RM1.00 to RM2.58 per litter.
This increase is inevitable by looking at the international oil price touches record high of USD145 per barrel. However, it is certain that the public will oppose strongly and fix and lower income group will suffer the most.
However, the government had also announced some incentive to help the poor by cash rebate of RM625 per annual when you renew your road tax. But many think that this is insufficient to help the needy and more helping hands need to be introduce to help the lower income group to face the high oil price era.
I suggest that the money saved from petrol subsidy, together with huge profit made by Petronas should be used to buy over Plus Highway and to reduce the toll rate to minimum as for maintenance purposes only. This will surely reduce the rakyat's burden and to ease the impact of increasing transportation cost, which in the end will make all goods price to increase.
Also, government needs to review all highway concessions contract and stop the nonsense of increasing toll rate every 3 years or else government needs to compensate the concessionaire company. Stop all these nonsense contracts, or simply buy over this highway to reduce the transportation cost!
The huge subsidy monies saved should also use to upgrade public transport. Extend the LRT system to more residential area: Cheras, Puchong, Kajang, Sunway, Kepong, Rawang and Klang. Connect Putra, STAR and Monorail and make more parking space and stop charging parking fees at LRT station.
We all know it is a hard time, we will face this challenge together but the government should stand with us. Stop wasting public money and stop all white elephant projects. You show us the example and we will follow. You want us to change our lifestyle, no problem, you should also change the public administration style, be more efficient, more transparent and more rakyat friendly.

Yes I support government buy over the toll company...actually the best is abolish all the toll.
Also don't forget ask government to ban all the parking collection company... This one also our money pocket Leech.
And last please ask government just simply abolish the Road Tax for vehicle 2.0 cc below.
If all the condition can be done, then just ask government release the "gate" and let the petrol price following market rate.

It's ridiculous to compare our fuel prices with our immediate neighbour. They have a higher income compared to us and their guv delivery system is so so much better than us. Our LRT is so "unsystematic". Try catch one during peak hours and you'll know what I mean.
I'm 100% with your opinion. It's crazy for the guv to held ransom by the toll concessionaire. Whoever signed the contract ought to be shot; if you get what I'm trying to say. Reduce or abolish unfair road tax. APs, import and excise tax should be aqbolished too. We need a true free market. Float the oil price, true car prices. No more protection for Proton. It'll kill our auto industry and scare away potential investors. They'll go to Thailand. After 20 years, the son should be able to make his own living; not hoping for daddy to give pocket money. Tak malu ke?
Oops, I forgot... we need face ma... Rakyat can suffer.
